Hyk Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Hyk is operated by Euler Ltd ("we", "us", "our"), a company in the United Kingdom. We are the data controller for the personal information described in this policy.

This policy explains what we collect when you use the Hyk app, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We do not sell your personal information.

2. Information we collect

You give us:

  • Account details: name, email address, password (stored securely by our authentication provider, never in plain text), or your Apple ID sign-in details if you use Sign in with Apple.

  • Profile: profile photo, bio, headline, interests and the subjects you teach.

  • Content: posts, shorts, videos, images, audio, files, links, articles, courses and comments you create.

  • Reports: the reason and details you give when you report content or a user.

  • Hyker payout details: if you are a Hyker, Stripe collects the identity and bank details needed to pay you. We receive only your Stripe account ID and status, not your bank details.

Created as you use Hyk:

  • Activity: likes, saves, comments, subscriptions, course progress, quiz attempts, blocks and hidden posts.

  • Purchases: which plans you subscribe to, their status and renewal dates. We never receive your card details; Apple handles payment.

  • Notifications: records of likes, comments, replies and new posts that we show you in the app.

  • Technical data: basic logs such as device type, app version and error reports, used to keep the service running.

3. How we use it​

We use your information for the following purposes, each with its legal basis under UK GDPR:

  • To create and run your account, and show your profile and content. Legal basis: contract.

  • To give you access to memberships and courses you subscribe to. Legal basis: contract.

  • To pay Hykers their earnings. Legal basis: contract.

  • To show your feed, search results and notifications. Legal basis: contract.

  • To review reports, remove harmful content and keep users safe. Legal basis: legitimate interests.

  • To fix bugs, prevent abuse and improve Hyk. Legal basis: legitimate interests.

  • To keep payment and tax records. Legal basis: legal obligation.

We do not use your information for third-party advertising, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

4. Who we share it with

We share information only with service providers that help us run Hyk, under contracts that require them to protect it:

  • Supabase: database, sign-in and file storage. Handles your account, profile, content and activity.

  • Mux: video upload and streaming. Handles the videos and shorts you upload.

  • Apple: Sign in with Apple and In-App Purchase. Handles your sign-in identifier and purchases.

  • RevenueCat: manages subscription status. Handles purchase records and your user ID.

  • Stripe: pays Hykers. Handles Hyker identity and payout details.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect users' safety, or as part of a sale or merger of our business.

5. What other users can see

  • Everyone on Hyk: your name, profile photo and bio, your public posts and comments, and a Hyker's subscriber count.

  • Members only: posts and courses a Hyker places behind a membership plan.

  • Hykers you subscribe to: that you are one of their subscribers and which plan you chose.

  • Only you: your email address, saved posts, course progress, hidden posts, block list and reports.

If you block someone, they can no longer see or interact with your content.

6. How long we keep it

  • We keep your information while your account is open.

  • You can delete your account at any time in Settings > Delete Account. This permanently deletes your profile, content, activity, reports and uploaded files.

  • We keep payment and payout records for as long as UK tax law requires (normally 6 years), without linking them to a deleted profile.

  • Deleting your account does not cancel an Apple subscription. Cancel it in your Apple ID settings.

7. Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can:

  • see a copy of the information we hold about you

  • correct information that is wrong (most of it you can edit in the app)

  • delete your information, including by deleting your account in the app

  • object to or ask us to limit how we use it

  • receive your information in a portable format

To use any of these rights, email us at the address below. We will reply within one month. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

8. Other important information

Children. Hyk is not for children under 13. If we learn that a child under 13 has an account, we will delete it.

Security. Data is encrypted in transit, access is restricted by account-level security rules, and payments are handled by Apple and Stripe, never by us directly. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password.

International transfers. Some of our providers store or process data outside the UK. Where they do, we rely on UK adequacy regulations or approved safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.

Changes. If we make significant changes to this policy, we will tell you in the app before they take effect.
